Organization

No.  IICMVA is managed by volunteers from the membership.

Neither the officers nor the volunteer members are compensated by IICMVA.

IICMVA has developed an evolving framework that utilizes best practices for insurance reporting and verification.  IICMVA is made up of technical experts on insurance verification processes and can provide recommendations or act as a technical advisor to improve verification programs.  IICMVA also acts as a liaison between the motor vehicle administrators and the insurance industry.

This workgroup maintains resources capturing key requirements, links to legislation, and changes to existing systems for auto liability reporting.  These resources are available to IICMVA members and discussed during the spring and fall meetings.  The information compiled is a starting point for the members, and business practices must be determined by each individual carrier.

This taskforce completes necessary review of statutes and regulations and works with the states’ driver’s licensing administrations to understand financial responsibility filing requirements and procedures. Information is documented for use by IICMVA members.  These resources are a starting point for the members, and business practices must be determined by each individual carrier.

No.  IICMVA can share information related to our area of specialization, does not speak on behalf of the industry.

IICMVA cannot commit members to participate in a pilot effort.  Each member must internally evaluate each opportunity independently and make their own business decision if they can participate in the effort.

In-person Spring/Fall Meetings

There are several factors in selecting a meeting location.  Examples of factors include:

  • Venue cost
  • Travel options to get to the location
  • New or changing legislation or program requirements
  • Participation by jurisdictional motor vehicle administration representatives during the meeting
  • Member feedback

Yes.  IICMVA holds meetings around the country with an effort to foster relationships between the insurance industry and the motor vehicle administrators.  We welcome participation in our meetings.

Each attendee is responsible for their own travel and lodging, if needed.  IICMVA secures a block of rooms that are available for attendees.  There are no registration fees for jurisdictional attendees and invited guests.  IICMVA membership allows for two attendees per paying member.  There is a small fee per additional attendee to help offset the additional costs.  This additional attendee fee is currently waived.

Statutory/Legislative Environment

Members of IICMVA are technical experts on insurance verification and financial responsibility topics.  We are willing to meet with insurance trade organizations, legislators, regulators, and vehicle administrators to provide insight regarding proposed bills, challenges with existing statutes and regulations, and on ways to improve existing systems.  IICMVA is not a lobbying organization and does not advocate for the expansion of insurance verification systems or provide support or opposition of proposed bills or regulations.

State/Jurisdictional related questions

Yes. You may email IICMVA at [email protected], or you may contact a member of the board directly if you have their email address.

IICMVA does not administer insurance verification systems.

IICMVA does not provide feedback on vendors.  We may be able to assist in identifying contacts within other jurisdictions that may be able to share their experiences with program administration.

IICMVA does not lobby for the implementation of insurance verification programs.  However, if a program is being considered within your jurisdiction, we are happy to provide an overview of the framework and answer technical questions for you.

IICMVA membership includes vendors that administer insurance verification systems for jurisdictions.  We are happy to explore their willingness to provide a demonstration.  A few of considerations include:

  • Each vendor’s solution is proprietary, which means participation would be limited to state agency employees and possibly legislators.
  • IICMVA cannot recommend a particular vendor. We suggest allowing each willing vendor to provide a demonstration of their solution which will also provide a better understanding of the solutions available prior to seeking an RFP.
  • There are vendors participating in this space that are not members of IICMVA. We do not have relationships to facilitate overviews with those vendors.
